THE PEACOCK HAT

one must be a firm believer

to strive to be

the very best at what you do.

sometimes one needs

to get knocked around

in the battleground

of mainstream ways

to realize it’s not for everybody.

all that wool

finally lifts off the eyes,

old ruts begin to fade.

here i work

this set of tires

and dig in

as if on a dirt road

to peel out

and leave dust

on old paths,

because this poet

needs something more

in the creative

to hang the hat

in the colors

of a fan shaped tail

to enjoy life.
